About Eric

I have coached over 150 writers in workshops and one-on-one sessions, and many have had their books published. For nearly twenty years, I have been on the faculty of the Big Sur Children’s Writers Workshop, directed by Andrea Brown, now held at the Hyatt Regency Monterey.

I am the author of 15 books for children and young adults, most recently co-writing the Acceleratti series (Tesla’s Attic, Edison’s Alley, and Hawking’s Hallway) and the N.O.A.H. Files series (including the New York Times bestseller I Am the Walrus, also Shock the Money and The Dog Days are Over) with Neal Shusterman. My earlier books include The Very Scary Almanac and The Almanac of the Gross, Disgusting & Totally Repulsive (both published by Random House, both in their 6th printing, the latter an ALA Recommended Book for Reluctant Readers).

Several of my books have been optioned by Hollywood.  Three Minute Thrillers is currently in development, under the title BEDTIME GORIES, and the Almanac of the Gross is being developed as THAT’S SO GROSS, a magazine-style TV show for kids. Tesla’s Attic was under option for some time by Disney XD, a cable channel aimed at pre-teen boys, and my co-author and I wrote the screenplay for a TV movie.

My screenwriting partner and I have sold three screenplays to Hollywood, including Class Act, an original feature film based on the true story of a sixth-grade teacher who ran for Congress, with her 11-year-old students as her campaign committee. We were also hired by Walden Media to write an adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy As You Like It, and we were hired to wrte the sequel to the Curious George movie by Universal Studios. In addition, I was hired to write a solo, screenplay, YOU SHOULD SEE THE CONKLIN’S LIVING ROOM, for Interscope Productions.
