Let's Get Started

I have coached over 100 writers in workshops and one-on-one sessions, many of whom have subsequently had their books published. For the past six years, I have been on the faculty of the Big Sur Children’s Writers Workshop, sponsored by the Henry Miller Library and directed by Andrea Brown.

I am the author of 10 books for children and young adults, including The Very Scary Almanac and The Almanac of the Gross, Disgusting & Totally Repulsive (both published by Random House, the latter named an ALA Recommended Book for Reluctant Readers); three X-Files novels (HarperCollins); two books of scary short stories, Three Minute Thrillers and More Three Minute Thrillers (Lowell House); and The Devil You Know, a young adult novel to be published by Dutton in 2007. I have also written numerous articles for magazines, including Dwell, Mental Floss, and Disney Adventure Digest.

Several of my books have been optioned by Hollywood. My Three Minute Thriller series was optioned by Merv Griffin Enterprises, and The Almanac of the Gross has been developed as a magazine-style TV show for kids, THAT’S SO GROSS!

My screenwriting partner and I sold a pitch for an original feature film based on a true story, Class Act, to Revolution Studios. It is now at Walden Media with Halle Berry set to star. We were also hired by Walden to write an adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy As You Like It, and we wrote the sequel to the Curious George movie for Universal Studios. Most recently, we were hired as “world builders” by Dreamworks Animation for a fantasy project they have in development.

My official fan website, with information about my books and other fun stuff, can be found at www.ElfmanWorld.com.
